Madison Laine Hay arrived 6.13.13

The boys both came early and their sister is no different. She decided to come seven days early and, might I say, she came in a hurry. Here’s the backstory.

Karen was awakened by our baby girl at 4:00 AM. She had three contractions in a row about 5 minutes a part. She woke me up at 4:30 AM by crawling in bed and kissing me. I awoke and said, “Is she coming?” Karen replied, “I think so.”

Being that it is our third one, we figured we would have a few hours before the final stretch so Karen took a shower and I got all of our stuff out to the van. Unbeknownst to us, we were in the final stretch. At 5 AM, I called my sister to come sit with the boys. Within 15 mins, the tide had turned. The contractions were now 3 mins a part and Karen was on her knees from the pressure.

My sister arrived and we finally left the house around 5:30. On the way, Karen called her doctor. He didn’t think she was too close (as he was talking to Karen in between contractions) and mentioned that she could just come in for her appointment that morning at 9:00 and bring her bags. She told him that she was already on the way to the hospital. Soon after the call, Karen endured an 8 minute long contraction. She told me that she didn’t care if I got a ticket, just get her to the hospital in time for her epidural.

We arrived at the hospital at 6:00 AM. Karen couldn’t get out of the car so I ran in and got her a wheelchair. I wheeled her in and she endured a 10 minute process of paperwork where she could barely sign anything. I rolled her to the pre-op area and Karen was feeling a lot of pressure. The nurse decided to go ahead and check her and found that Karen was 9.5 cm dilated and ready to go. Karen’s response was an emphatic, “no!”. That meant a natural delivery for our baby girl.

The nurses rolled her into the delivery room and while moving her to the delivery bed her water broke. Karen was feeling the pressure of our baby girl as she was coming whether the nurses were ready or not. So, one nurse is telling Karen to push, one is telling Karen to not move because she’s trying to put an IV in her arm, while another nurse is holding a heart monitor on Karen’s belly. Within minutes and a few good pushes from Karen, our baby girl made her entry into this world. All of this drama happened in a matter of 15 mins or less. Our baby girl was born at 6:24 AM, weighing 7lbs 6oz, measuring 19.5 inches long with a 13 inch head circumference.

They asked us the name of our baby girl and together Karen and I named her Madison Laine Hay. Madison means “daughter of a mighty warrior” and a derivative of Matthew meaning “gift of the Lord”. Laine is from Karen’s middle name Elaine meaning, “ray of shining light”.

We welcome our precious gift of the Lord who has brought a ray of shining light to our family. She brings us great delight, joy and peace. Welcome our dear Maddie Laine.
